Richard F. "Kinky" Friedman, (born October 31, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American singer, ballad maker, novelist &, presently, the candidate for the professional of Governor of the State of Texas, United States.
Natural around Chicago to Jewish parents, Friedman's family moved to the cattle ranch around central Texas during his childhood. He experienced the lament interest inside each music & chess at an early age. Friedman graduated from either a University of Texas at Austin in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts, double-majoring around Psychology and Plan II Honors. He so served 2 years using a Peace Corps in Borneo and other areas of the south-west Pacific Ocean.

Music career
Friedman formed his band, A Texas Jewboys, in the early 1970s. Friedman's father objected to the title of the band, calling it the "negative, hostile, peculiar thing."

Writing career
Fallowing his music career stalled in the 1980s, Friedman found the freshly lease in life as a detective novelist. His books own similarities to his music, featuring the fictionalized version of himself solving crimes in New York City and dispensing jokes, wisdom, Texan charm and Jameson's whiskey in equal measure. It is written around the straightforward style which owes the debt to Raymond Chandler.
Friedman has too written the regular column for the magazine Texas Monthly since April 2001, although it has been suspended during his run governor of Texas; his survive essay appeared in the March 2005 issue.

Around 2004, Friedman began a good campaign to be a Governor of Texas in 2006. One of his declared goals is the "dewussification" of Texas. Among his campaign motto come "How Hard Could It Be?" & "Why The Hell Not?" He's hoping to watch in the footsteps of more entertainers-turned-governors, including Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Ronald Reagan. While a campaign finance reports come out fallowing a 2nd quarter experienced ended, Friedman shockingly outraised previous Democratic Congressman Chris Bell.
Friedman is friends using two Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both of whom have invited him to visit the White House. He wrote all about his friendly relationship using the two inside his November 2001 column ("Hail to the Kinkster") for Texas Monthly.
